Biography

In 1901, the City Council of València suggested the creation of the Banda Municipal to the leading musical personality of the moment, Salvador Giner. Under the baton of Santiago Lope, the Municipal Band gave its first concert in 1903 performing, among other pieces, L’Entrà de la Murta, composed for the occasion by Giner.
Chief conductors of the Banda Municipal have been Lope, Vega, Ayllón, Seguí, Palanca, Ferriz, Garcés, Ribelles, Sánchez Torrella and Bonete. Rafael Sanz-Espert is Chief conductor since 2018.
During the year, the Banda Simfònica Municipal de València offers a series of concerts at the Iturbi Hall and in the Gardens of the Palau de la Música; in different towns of the Valencian Community and in European cities, together with ceremonial events of the City Council.

The Municipal Band has been awarded the Corbata of the Orden Civil de Alfonso X el Sabio; the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes, the most important award given by the Spanish government; the Medalla de Oro de la Ciudad de València, granted by the City Council of València and the Alta Distinción de la Generalitat Valenciana al Mérito Cultural.
