The multidisciplinary project (music, video and live painting) La esencia y lo intangible, presented by B3: Brouwer Trio for their 20th anniversary and made up entirely of works dedicated to the group, puts forward a metaphor for life’s journey in search of transcendence and spirituality, so intimately connected to the human condition. Beginning with works mingled with human beings’ most primitive earthly impulses, with resonances and rhythms linked to traditions connected to nature and the energy of Mother Earth, we navigate the darkness towards hope and light in order to reach the rebirth reflected by the Phoenix, ending with the ultimate expression of spirituality: love for others and awareness of belonging to the same humanity, single yet rich in its diversity.

Biography

The B3: Brouwer Trio takes its name as a tribute to the prestigious Cuban composer, guitarist and conductor Leo Brouwer. As regards the trio’s close relationship with the maestro, it is worth highlighting the dedication given in the works Cuadros de otra exposición and El Oráculo de Ifá.

In its 20-year history, whose anniversary is being celebrated in 2022, B3 has garnered an excellent international reputation backed by its performances in significant venues and festivals in Europe, Latin America and the United States. Critics have stressed their beauty of sound, individual virtuosities, clear and balanced unison, and a very flexible sense of rhythm. Their repertoire encompasses the great works written for this ensemble, including the most recent creations. It should be noted that more than 40 works have been dedicated to the trio, and they have performed numerous world premières by composers from five continents. They are often invited to be a resident group by important international academies in order to give master classes to young performers and composers. Their discography concentrates on the Latin American and Spanish repertoire, the ensemble’s hallmark, having recorded for Naxos, Rycy Productions Inc. Burbank-California, SonArt Producciones, the SGAE Authorship Foundation and Verso. It was the first Spanish group selected to perform at Classical Next, the most significant classical music fair in Europe, and has been nominated for the Carles Santos Valencian Music Awards. It has recently premièred the chamber video opera La Isla by the composer Nuria Núñez Hierro, and won two awards at the 2020 YAM awards, Best Opera for Young Audiences and The People’s Choice Award. It is also worth highlighting their collaboration with guest artists such as Gérard Caussé (viola), Dávide Bandieri (clarinet), Isabel Monar (soprano), Daniel Binelli (bandoneon) and María Aranguren (painter).
