Deine Freunde aus der Ferne (Strichfassung – N3) (2022) Toshio Hosokawa (1955) 45’

A world full of natural adventures that you go on with your teddy bear and his friends? Or one where you don’t have to do anything because adorable robots are there to do all the work? Which one is better? With his new composition, Toshio Hosokawa, together with writer Yoko Tawada, takes the young audience on a dream journey to distant worlds!

The Family project “Deine Freunde aus der Ferne” is Toshio Hosokawa’s first piece dedicated to young audiences or families. Associated to an exclusive Text by Yoko Tawada – a story is based on an old Japanese tale about imaginary worlds – the new work has been written for 7 musicians and a narrator. The piece has been commissioned by United Instruments of Lucilin.

Lucilin is Luxembourg’s only chamber music ensemble specializing in contemporary music. It was founded in 1999 and is dedicated exclusively to promoting and commissioning works from the 20th and 21st centuries. In doing so, they have performed works by James Dillon, Fatima Fonte, Giulia Lorusso, Philippe Manoury and Sonja Mutic. Their performances include a wide range of formats: from “traditional” concerts to musical theatre productions, children’s projects, jam sessions and debates with composers. The ensemble collaborates with the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg in staging contemporary opera and musical theatre projects. Their premières include Toshio Hosokawa’s monodrama The Raven with Charlotte Hellekant, Philippe Manoury’s “thinkspiel” Kein Licht staged by Nicolas Stemann; and the opera The Sleeping Thousand by Adam Maor.
